The first classroom
After having carried out several smaller projects in the past, such as the construction of a well, we reached a real milestone in 2021: the successful construction of the first part of the school building. This means a classroom with space for up to 40 students, as well as an office and a storage room.
In addition, we equipped the classroom with all the necessary materials, such as school desks and books and a modern whiteboard, so that everything is set for the classes to start. This project brought us a big step closer to our vision. It was made possible by the generous donations of our supporters, as well as a grant from the W.P. Schmitz Foundation.
The sanitary station
As part of the same project, a sanitary station was built with four separately accessible toilets and a washing facility. But because hygiene is an important issue, especially regarding the Covid19 pandemic, we have also taken other measures,
to contain diseases at the school. We have distributed mouth-nose protection and disinfectants to our students and staff, and there are also additional hand-washing facilities at the school.
We want to improve the educational situation in the Taha region. An important step towards this direction is the educational program that has been offered there since the completion of our classroom. Trained teachers prepare our students for the
final exams in English, mathematics and science. These core subjects cause problems for many students and are the reason why many young people in Ghana do not pass the exams. We want to counteract this with our free lessons.
