Project History
The idea for the TAHA school project arose in 2013 from a personal encounter: Christoph Wenzl and Alhassan Salifu met while working as teachers at Kaleo Senior High Technical School in Ghana.
Before graduating from university, Alhassan himself had had a difficult educational journey. The educational situation in his home village of Taha – as in many other villages in northern Ghana – is challenging: there are too few schools, the infrastructure is inadequate, there is no government support, and many children receive little backing from their families.
All of this makes school education a major challenge for many young people. Alhassan was no longer willing to accept this situation. He wanted better educational opportunities for the children and young people in Taha, convinced that education is the key to better prospects in life. Together with Christoph, he decided to take action himself instead of continuing to wait for government assistance. In doing so, they laid the foundation for a project that aims to open up new opportunities for young people in Taha.
Taha-Schul-Projekt e.V. – Improving education. Creating perspectives.
What began as a shared idea between two friends is now a growing association with over 30 dedicated members: Taha-Schul-Projekt e.V. was founded in Germany in 2014 to give children and young people in Taha, a village in northern Ghana, access to good education.
We believe that every child has the right to education. But where government support is lacking, people need to step up and take responsibility. That is why we plan, finance, and support educational projects directly on site—in close cooperation with our Ghanaian partners.
But we want to do more than just construct buildings.
We want to raise awareness—about the importance of education, about global justice, about a future in which one’s background does not determine one’s opportunities. That is why we also give presentations in schools, clubs, and communities about our project and the realities in the Global South.
Our association is 100% volunteer-based. Every euro donated goes directly to the projects on the ground. Transparency, trust, and long-term cooperation are our top priorities.

Our Team
Christoph Wenzl
Chairman
Christoph Wenzl is the first chairman and founder of the Taha-Schul-Projekt e.V. From 2012 to 2013, he worked as a teacher in Ghana. Since then, he has been involved in development cooperation and has visited the country several times as part of project trips. Christoph Wenzl is currently pursuing a doctorate in molecular biology at the Gulbenkian Institute for Molecular Medicine in Lisbon. He is conducting research on Trypanosoma brucei, the pathogen that causes African sleeping sickness.
Dr. Andreas Sperlich
Vice-Chairman
Andreas Sperlich is a founding member of the association and has been its 2nd chairman since its establishment in 2014. As a student, he attended Collège Sant-Albert in Atakpamé, Togo, as part of a school partnership between Joseph-von-Fraunhofer Gymnasium Cham and has been aware of the importance of education in countries of the Global South ever since. Andreas Sperlich is currently undergoing further training to become a specialist in internal medicine in Regensburg.
Michael Wenzl
Treasurer
Michael Wenzl has been treasurer of the Taha-Schul-Projekt e.V. since its foundation and has already been able to gain first-hand impressions of the necessity of our association’s work during a project trip. As a tax consultant (Dipl. Finanzwirt FH), he ran his own tax office in Roding for 35 years. He has held similar honorary positions in the advertising circle of the city of Roding, in the church administration of St. Martin Untertraubenbach, and in several non-profit institutions.
Northern Educational Alliance
Parallel to the Taha-Schul-Projekt e.V., Alhassan Salifu founded the Northern Educational Alliance (NEA) in Ghana – a non-profit organization based in Tamale, in the Northern Region. The members of the NEA come from the surrounding region and volunteer their time to improve educational opportunities in their homeland.
The NEA is our most important local partner: it takes care of the practical implementation of our projects, coordinates construction projects, maintains contact with authorities, and works closely with local chiefs—whose support is crucial to the long-term success of our work.
But the NEA’s impact extends beyond our joint projects: it is committed to promoting education in the Northern Region in general and helps to strengthen long-term structures that open up new perspectives for children and young people.
This close partnership—based on equality and mutual trust—is the foundation of our joint commitment to education.
Supporters – Together we are changing lives. Thank you!
Behind each of our projects are people who believe in our vision—and support it. We are deeply grateful to all the individuals who strengthen our efforts through their donations, encouragement, and trust.
We would also like to thank the foundations, companies, and organizations that have reliably supported our commitment to education in Taha for many years.
Your help makes it possible to bring about concrete change on the ground—and open up new paths for young people.
This page is also a place to say thank you: it shows who stands by our side. For us, every contribution is not only financial support—it is also a strong sign of solidarity.
Thank you for being part of our story.
