Our local projects
Here we present what we are working on specifically—and how we are gradually turning our vision of better education in Taha into reality.

Here we present what we are working on specifically—and how we are gradually turning our vision of better education in Taha into reality.
At our school in Taha, we offer targeted support to young people who have failed or only partially passed their West African Secondary School Certificate (WASSCE) exams. Around 30 students are currently participating in this support program.
Classes are held in a hybrid format: participants learn English, mathematics, science, and social studies with the help of digital instructional videos.
Once a week, an additional teacher comes to the school to reinforce the content, answer questions, and provide individual support.
The goal is clear: to give students a second chance at graduating from school—and thus lay the foundation for self-determined educational and career paths. The program is free of charge and is made possible entirely through donations. We would like to take this opportunity to express our sincere thanks to the Georg Kraus Foundation, which provided us with significant support in setting up the hybrid teaching concept.
In recent years, we have been able to implement important projects together with our local partners that have brought about lasting improvements to the educational landscape in Taha. Here we present some of the key milestones along our journey so far.
With the construction of our first classroom in 2020, a long-cherished dream became reality – laying the foundation for our educational work in Taha. The result is a bright, well-ventilated room with space for up to 40 young people, complemented by an office for teachers and a small storage room. An equally important part of the project was the construction of a sanitary station with four separately accessible toilets and a hand washing facility.
This project was our first major milestone – and at the same time a tour de force that we had been working towards for a long time.
This was made possible by generous funding from the W.P. Schmitz Foundation and an overwhelming number of private donations as part of a major campaign.
The construction work was professionally carried out by local company Modi Constructions. Our partners at the Northern Educational Alliance also ensured that everything ran smoothly, visiting the construction site every day and closely monitoring the work.
Immediately after completing our first school building, we launched a support program in 2021 for young people who failed all or some of their West African Secondary School Certificate (WASSCE) exams. The aim was and is to give them a second chance to graduate from school through targeted preparation, thereby laying the foundation for self-determined educational and career paths.
The lessons are completely free of charge. In addition, we were able to secure sponsors who covered the exam fees through scholarships.
The success speaks for itself: in 2021/22, 77% of participants passed their final exams, and in 2022/23, the figure rose to 80%. We are particularly proud that some of our graduates are now attending tertiary education institutions – a milestone that demonstrates the potential of targeted educational support.
The dream of one day offering secondary education in Taha is taking shape—step by step. An important milestone was reached in 2025 with the addition of two new classrooms to our school building, creating space for a total of 80 more young people.
One of the two rooms will initially be used as a library: a place where students can not only find textbooks and reference works, but also quiet workspaces to study or do their homework – something that is not always possible at home.
The construction work was completed by local company Abdul Rahman Amadu in just four months – professionally, with dedication and to a high standard of craftsmanship. An independent building inspector also confirmed the impressive result.
We are very proud of this progress – and would like to thank all the generous supporters who made this project possible.
